Turn Your Writing Skills Into A Very Profitable Online Business
Being an online writer can be a very well-paid, flexible and fun job that you can do from anywhere. To start with, you’ll be able to earn about $20 an hour. As your research and writing skills increase, allowing you to write more articles per hour as well as getting paid more per article, you can expect to make as much as $50 an hour.
How do you get started? Where can you find these writing jobs? What skills do you need and how do you develop them? Read on.
What You Need To Know To Get Started-
To succeed as a writer, you need to have very good English skills and at least decent typing skills. Naturally, the faster you can type the more you’ll earn per hour.
You’ll need to be able to quickly research topics that you don’t know about yet. It also helps to have a bit of background knowledge on specific topics, such as marketing and a good understanding on how to do research to learn more about a topic.
You’ll need to be able to dedicate at least 90 minutes a day, five days a week in the beginning towards becoming an online writer. At first this will be spent on marketing; but in a few weeks it’ll mostly be writing.
Pricing Your Writing Services-
To get started, price your services competitively. The market rate for article writing has been around $7 per article for the last few years, which is a decent place to start for beginning writers. You can typically do about two to three of these per hour.
Note: Yes, you can get paid $200 to $1,000 per article on sites like ProBlogger or by professional sites and magazines. Unfortunately, the high-end market is much more difficult to break into and is generally not a great place for a beginner to start.
If you don’t have any sample articles, write a few so others can see what kind of content you’re capable of creating. Create at least five samples, ideally ten.
Getting Clients For Your Writing Services-
Create an advertisement for your services on message boards like the Warrior Forum, WickedFire, SitePoint and Digital Point. These are all websites where online marketers converge. Many of them will be looking for services like yours.
If you’re priced competitively and have good samples, you’ll soon be getting orders. Fulfill on these orders on time and ask for testimonials. Have them post it on your advertising thread to get even more business.
Once you have a bit of experience, consider applying to be a writer for either Demand Media (eHow.com) or wiseGEEK.com. These are both high-volume content producers that pay about $15 per article.
They’re a little harder to work with because there’s a strict editorial guideline, but once you get used to the process you can get pretty good hourly rates by working with these sites.
Another great place to get clients is Fiverr, you can create an account and set up an ad in no time. Many online businesses use Fiverr to find people with more skills than themselves to do specific task so the business owner can focus on the tasks they can comfortably handle.
There also is another great opportunity we have at our fingertips, If you are a writer and really enjoy it, you can also build your own website and write valuable content for your own readers, and then monetize it and soon you will have a very profitable online business.
Becoming an online writer isn’t too difficult and can be a highly paid profession. It takes a bit of practice, discipline and self-promotion in the beginning, but you’ll soon have a nice stream of orders flowing in.
OK so that’s all I have for you for now if you are looking to become a freelance writer.
